Grace Kids on TV!

One of the local tv stations broadcast coverage of the 2015 Walnut Festival Twilight Parade, and at the 37 minute mark there’s a fun clip featuring our little box of preschooler crayons (and their families) marching down Main Street and showing off their school spirit for King Walnut! Thanks again to everyone who came out participated or cheered us on!

“The Trouble With ‘Whyyyyyyy?'”

Parents of preschoolers will no doubt recognize this favored phrase among the the 2-5 year old set – often asked (or whined) when they are being told something they don’t necessarily want to hear (ie: It’s bedtime/bathtime/time to come inside!). In her article from the September issue of Active Family Magazine (page 18-19), child development and behavior specialist Betsy Brown Braun writes about the many different purposes that may be behind your child’s question of “Whyyyyy?”

Getting Your Kid Out the Door in the Morning

School mornings can be hectic – “Where’s my shoe?” “Did you finish your breakfast?” “We have to go – I’m the Snack parent today!” Any of those sound familiar?

Dr. Laura Markham, author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting, provides some ideas to help us all survive the morning rush while staying calm. Her advice was featured this month in Active Family Magazine:

Chevron Family Theatre Festival – Saturday, July 18!

Looking for a fun weekend activity with the family? 1436244799_stretchThe 9th annual Chevron Family Theatre Festival will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual Chevron Family Theatre Festival welcomes the community to a day of affordable, high quality family entertainment. The City of Walnut Creek, the Lesher Center for the Arts, the Diablo Regional Arts Association, and San Ramon–based Chevron work closely  to transform the Lesher Center and the street in front of the Center into a day-long festival of fun, arts, and entertainment for families and visitors. Each year, thousands of adults and children enjoy more than two dozen professional performances in the Lesher Center’s three theaters, in the lobbies, and right outside.  Events outside are free; performances inside the Center’s three theatres are just $5 per person and run 45-60 minutes long and are appropriate for all ages.

Wishing everyone a Happy Fourth of July!

Rummage Sale 2015 – Recap and Shout-Outs!

Our second annual Grace Preschool Rummage Sale was a big success! We made over $200 more than last year, and the sport court was filled with shoppers and smiles as members of the community came out to score a bargain and support the school.  HUGE thanks to Jen Slattengren, our outgoing Ways and Means Coord, for her vision and can-do attitude. Thanks also to her co-captain of Rummage Sale awesomeness, Laura Handley (our incoming Ways and Means Coord) and to all our volunteer parents who donated their time (during Summer Vacation!) to help sort, price and run the sale on the day of the event.  This is the kind of thing that makes a co-op such a great experience, and we appreciate all of you!

We had all sorts of matching sets – dishes, candlesticks, preschoolers…

Sales were so brisk, it was exhausting!

Our prices were wild and crazy – so were some of our volunteers!
