After the winter holidays, Grace preschoolers began January by studying space. They enjoyed making planet collages, painting planets and comets, and assembling and decorating rockets out of cardboard tubes and crepe streamers.
DSC_0654They also participated enthusiastically in astronaut pretend play, against a backdrop of the interior of the space shuttle. Various space travelers were spotted in the classroom wearing “moon boots,” vests, rocket packs, and other travel gear. IMG_8530
IMG_8484This unit, a perennial Grace favorite, dovetailed nicely with this year’s Pancake Breakfast theme of “Kids in Space”! Our annual fundraising breakfast was a success. The children loved searching for their artwork in the amazingly decorated Oak Room, and they enjoyed seeing friends and showing off their preschool community to family (despite the rain).

The Tuesday-Thursday class also participated in Saturday School, which is a chance for the non-cooping parents to experience a typical Grace school day, at a time that fits better with a Monday-Friday work schedule. The children loved sharing their day with parents who might not otherwise be able to participate in the cooperative IMG_8007experience!

February, with its rainy weather, allowed for plenty of time on the sport court. The children loved pedaling tricycles and riding on scooters, in addition to their more typical outside play activities.

Grace students also learned about the Chinese New Year celebration, and colorful dragons festooned the classrooms for several weeks. Finally, no February would be complete without a Valentines exchange. The kids were thrilled to receive Valentines from their friends! – Brooke Novales, Member at LargeIMG_8649
